BEATTY IS LEEDing THE WAY
Edwards, CO – April 11, 2008 – Slifer Designs is proud to announce our first LEED AP certified designer, Jennifer Beatty.
The United States Green Building Council (USGBC) has created the exam process and a specific exam track, which provides a standard for professionals participating in the design and construction phases of high performance, healthful, durable, affordable, and environmentally sound commercial, institutional, and high-rise residential buildings.
Beatty passed the “New Construction” exam and has plans in the future to take the “Existing Buildings” and “New Homes” exams, the latter of which is in the process of being written.
“This achievement comes with the support of Slifer Designs, my colleagues and my passion for green design,” said Beatty. “As the leader of our in-house Green Team, becoming LEED AP certified was a personal goal for me.
“I look forward to sharing my new knowledge with our clients and anticipate that it will encourage more green projects to come our way,” Beatty continued. “I am also excited to help several of our designers, who are currently studying for the exam.”
“We are thrilled to now be able to offer our clients an automatic LEED point on their sustainable projects,” said Jim Dawkins, AIA, vice president of Slifer Designs’ Interior Architecture department. “This certification distinguishes us within the industry locally, and positions us to act as a steward for USGBC’s green building standards and point system.
“Additional points can be accrued through Jennifer’s advice throughout the design process. It is crucial to have her input from the start,” Dawkins continued.
“Interior design is not typically a field people relate to green building, but it actually has the largest impact on our health and comfort. LEED accredited professionals on staff help a design firm ensure a client’s sustainability objectives are met,” said Matt Scherr, executive director of the Eagle Valley Alliance for Sustainability.
Slifer Design is a member of the USGBC, Eagle Valley Alliance for Sustainability as well as a sponsor of the “Healthy Homes Tour.” The Slifer Designs showroom features several furniture and accessory items, which are considered green, including Environment, NaturalLee, and Western Heritage. They are designated with a special “green product” sticker.
